About IHEA

Niccu Tafarrodi -- Executive Director

IHEA is the brainchild of Dr. Niccu Tafarrodi, a researcher, educator and former volunteer social worker. Dr. Tafarrodi received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in family health education at the University of Minnesota.

A pioneer in the field of health education for minorities, Dr. Tafarrodi created and chaired a multicultural committee at the American Cancer Society, Minnesota Division, before she founded IHEA in 2001.

History

In 1996, the American Cancer Society, Minnesota Division, created the new Multicultural Committee to focus continuous, long-term attention on the health education needs of Minnesota's non-white communities.

Mission

The mission of the International Health Education Alliance (IHEA) is to assist underserved populations, especially immigrants and refugees; to identify and define, in culturally appropriate ways, their community’s health needs in regard to chronic diseases; and to establish new education programs to address these needs.
